1. You have a set budget for your mattress and want to know how to get the best one for your money.
2. You're not sure whether to go for a standard size or a custom size, and want to weigh up the pros and cons of each.
3. You want to replace your mattress with one that's the right size for you, but you're torn between two options.
4. You're considering buying a mattress from outside Spain (or already have one from living abroad) because of its lower price, and want to know if the savings are really worth it.
Follow the margins shown in the diagram below. As you'll see, the recommended margins differ depending on whether the mattress is for one sleeper or two:

1)
For single mattresses , there should ideally be around 19 to 20 cm of space between each shoulder and the sides of the bed. The gap between the top of the head (without a pillow) and the top edge of the mattress should be roughly the same as the gap between the heels and the bottom edge — a minimum of about 6 cm on each side.2)
For double mattresses , the same top and bottom margins apply, but the side margins are smaller — around 6-7 cm on the outer side of each sleeper, with a minimum of 10-12 cm of separation between the two people sharing the bed. In the video below, one of our sleep experts explains everything you need to consider when choosing the mattress size that's right for you.
The most common bed sizes in Spain
• 180 centimeters:
A common length, especially for the pull-out beds in children's trundle beds. • 190 centimeters:
The most common length in Spain, given the average height of the population. • 200 centimeters:
As average height increases, more and more people are choosing this length. It's also the standard in many other European countries, such as Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. • More than 200 centimeters:
These are custom-made solutions for taller people who don't fit within standard mattress lengths.
As for width, Spain offers a range of options, from single beds all the way up to large doubles.
• Single: These beds are 80 or 90 centimeters wide by 180 or 190 centimeters long. You'll find them in all kinds of formats — foldable beds, trundle beds, sofa beds, bunk beds, and more. Bedding is easier to find for the 90 cm size, since 80 cm beds have become less common. Single beds don't need a large room, which makes them a great fit for children's bedrooms or for anyone who isn't too fussy about space.
• Double: Double beds come in several widths. The 1.20 m and 1.35 m sizes were the original double bed measurements and used to be the most popular choice among couples. These days, however, 1.50 m and 1.60 m beds (both 1.90 m long) are gaining ground, since they offer more room and comfort for two people. Bedding is easiest to find for the 1.35 m and 1.50 m sizes, as they remain the most widely used.
• Queen Size: Smaller than a King but larger than a standard double, Queen Size beds measure 1.60 to 1.80 meters wide by 1.90 or 2 meters long. Bedding is fairly easy to find, though you'll need a decent amount of space in the bedroom.
• King Size: King Size beds are considered a luxury option, and you'll find them in almost every 5-star hotel. They're wide, long, and extremely comfortable, measuring 2 x 2 meters. Bedding is a little more specialized, though it's becoming easier to find as these beds grow in popularity. King Size mattresses are also available in several types — memory foam, foam, springs, and more. If you want a huge bed to stretch out in, King Size is the way to go, though you'll need a bedroom big enough to fit it.
• Presidential King Size: This size is more common in English-speaking countries, though several Spanish mattress brands also treat it as standard. At 200 centimeters wide, it offers an especially spacious sleep experience for each person sharing the bed.
Based on Colchón Exprés' extensive experience selling mattresses — both in our physical stores and online — here are the sizes that sell best for us:

To wrap up everything above, here's our table of standard Spanish mattress sizes, along with their closest equivalents in countries like the UK and the United States.

As you can see in the table, we've also included a few of the best-known mattress sizes in the UK and the US, since they help show just how much sizing varies from country to country. These differences can be significant even between neighboring countries — Spain and France, for example, share the same standard single-mattress width (90 cm), but France's standard length is 200 cm rather than 190 cm. Germany follows a similar pattern, with typical lengths of 200 to 220 cm, reflecting the taller average height of its population.
We've just walked you through the advantages of standard-size mattresses, but if you'd rather make the very most of your room, with a mattress adapted 100% to your needs, at Colchón Exprés you'll also find our Best Made-to-Measure Mattresses — so you can enjoy exactly the rest you're looking for, with the best promotions and the best service.
